With "Officium" Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble created a musical concept that simultaniously reached up into the Jazz-Classic-and Pop-charts. Only few record projects have been known to gain such widespread audience attention. Concert tours took the group to sold-out churches and auditoriums from the US to Japan. This congenial collaboration will now be continued: Mnemosyne is the titel of their new two-record CD released in April 1999 (ECM New Series 1700/1 2CD set 465 122-2) and of the ongoing concert program. Mnemosyne, mother of the muses, daughter of Zeus is the goddess of memory.
